Embryo flush - 05.01.2008

Taateli (O Man) will be flushed with Bolton 21st of January. Let's hope we'll get good result while this is one of the best cowfamilies in our farm.
Taateli's last 12 month production is 11322-421-3,72-355-3,14. Her dam is still alive and has just reached 90 000 kg lifetime production.

Happy New Year 2007! - 14.01.2007

Happy New year, it's been long time since I've last time updated the news.

Naava (Heldostar x Besne Buck) made us happy and calved 2 heifer calves out of embryos that she carried. We transfered 2 third class embryos to Naava when we flushed one of our heifers last year and Naava carried both of those! :) Few days after Naava one heifer calved also a heifer calf out of those same embryos. So now we have all together 3 heifer calves whose pedigree is Laudan x O'man.

Signe (Igniter x Jocko Besne) calved last night...one more heifer calf. This one was out of Zenith. Signe herself is a little bit of a disappointment. Her body is ok but udder is already a little under the hock after second calving...we were hoping more (if you look Igniters indices). Signes dam Palinka has calved already 4 times and her udder is much much better...so Jocko has not let us down! :)

Menan Flint ET - 11.11.2006

Kuoppalan Theresa calved this morning the embryo she was carrying...a bullcalf of course! Menan Flint ET is from a well known cow from France, his dam is SPACE winner Ophelie. Sire is Integrity. We'll try to offer him to the AI and if they don't buy him, then we try to sell him as a private bull to some farm.

It's really winter! - 04.11.2006

It's cold out there, the weather is just like in February, a lot of snow, -14 celcius degrees and the sun is shining!

Uneco and Urceo were sold and they started the journey to their new home yesterday. Let's hope that everything went well and that those heifers will grow up as nice cows!

Ronda calved last night a heifer calf out of Zenith. This was Rondas 3rd calving and the same time 3rd heifer calf. I'm hoping that Winnie will become as nice as her 2 older sisters, Uneco and Duetto, who are looking really nice!

Let it snow, let it snow... - 30.10.2006

First snow came last Saturday, finally :) We just took the last heifers in on last Thursday, so just on time before it started to snow. And that ment that I had a lot of work to do on Saturday...all those teddy bears needed to be clipped to get them look like holstein heifers again. But I succeeded and now there is a group of quite good looking heifers in the barn :)

New pictures - 18.09.2006

Elly Geverink and Alice were in our farm on August and took pictures of Palinka and Schumina. You can see the pictures in Palinkas and Schuminas pages. In the pictures Palinka has calved 3 times and Schumina only once...look at the difference! Go Jocko! ;)

About a week ago we started to wonder what was wrong with Vogue, heifercalf out of Odival For. She didn't want to eat much and she rather was sleeping. The vet gave her antibiotics, vitamines, selenium etc. Today, while visiting to see a cow that stopped eating after calving, the vet looked also the calf. The diagnosis was that her hip was broken. Now she got some more medicine and hopefully will be ok in the future.

New pictures - 18.08.2006

Finally it rained, only about 17 millimetres, but it's better than nothing. Before that, it rained about 4 weeks ago, but only 6 mm at that time. So we really could use some heavy rain now!

I added some pictures of heifers to their pages...there's just some problem that you can't see the pictures on the english pages. You'll have to change the language in to finnish and then take page "lehmät" and then you'll be able to see the pictures by clicking the heifers name.

Heifers on sale! - 09.08.2006

We have to sell some of our heifers so that we'll have enouhg places for them during the winter that's coming. Four heifers are on sale, Taiga (Best x Terry), Tricky (Menuet x Brett), Urceo (Okendo x Heldostar) and Uneco (Meeting x Lee).

How to spend a holiday? - 15.07.2006

I was on holiday for a week. What did I do? I was in France of course to see some cows :) I visited the Sersia progeny group show in Blain. A lot of beautiful cows and very well organized show! And of course it was great to see one of my favourite bulls alive, Jocko Besne

At home Taronne made us happy and calved a heifercalf out of Odival For. It's the first heifercalf out of Odival in our farm...I'm waiting a lot of her! :)

Bullcalves to AI - 01.07.2006

Pelindas and Patronnes bullcalves Kuoppalan Focus (Alves) and Kuoppalan Fortune (Picston Shottle) started their life as AI bulls, and they were taken to Muhos station where they'll grow up to be the young sires. Let's hope that everything goes well in Muhos and we'll see Focus and Fortune as young bulls next year :)

Happy Midsummer! - 22.06.2006

The first silage is now made and also hay is in the barn. So in that way everything is all right. We don't actually made that much of hay, our cows doesn't understand what's so great about it, they rather sleep on it :)

Four calves Ultra Bra, Ulrika, Verna and Vicky has made some new friends. Three girls who have their summer cottage next to our house have been visiting their pasture. I have put some brushes next to the pasture and the gils have been brushing the calves...and you can tell that the calves are so happy for the extra attention! :)

Embryos again - 26.05.2006

Tekla and Taateli were flushed in April as it was planned and the result was ok on average. Taateli produced 12 embryos by Laudan, but from Tekla (flushed with Toystory) we got only dead embryos.

We put two third class embryos to our own recipients and just this week our vet checked those and both Tiuku and Naava got pregnant by those embryos!:)

Embryo flushing plans - 04.03.2006

Tekla and Taateli will be flushed maybe in April. The bulls to be used will be Toystory for Tekla and Laudan to Taateli.

Last year production - 30.01.2006

Last years production figures came today and I have to say it is looking good! The average production last year was 12051 kg milk, 482 kg fat (4,0 %) and 410 kg protein (3,4 %).

I'll update each cows productions to the website next weekend.

Happy new year indeed, our heifer Sahrami did what we have been hoping for long time...a heifercalf out of an embryo! :) Calf is called Pakaraisen Verna ET, her sire is Merinit and grandsire Silverpost Sinatra. Her dam Doris was also born out of an embryo, from the farm of Jean Luc Le Couedic from France.

We have sold some of the heifers because of the limited space at the cow house. There was 4 heifers that we were selling, and now only one of those is left...let's hope that someone will buy that one also.

Ilolan Naava made us happy by calving a heifercalf out of Okendo in the middle of august. The calf got her name after the AI-center that owns her father, so her name is Urceo :)

Indexes and embryos - 21.02.2005

I have now updated the new indexes to the sites. Best cow is Patronne (out of Jocko Besne) with index +40!

Last Saturday we transfered one French embryo to Signe. The embryo was Roceane x V.Eaton, so let's hope for the best!

Schumina was flushed today and we got 12 embryos! :) 4 of those were transfered to our own heifers and 8 will be sold.

The new indexes looks positive. The average of whole herd is +22. Patronne (out of Jocko Besne) has the best index, +40! :)

The show weekend is happily over. Signe (out of Igniter) won her class, Ronda (out of Lee) was second in her class and Palinka (out of Jocko Besne) was third in her class! So I need to say I am really happy about the results!

Kuoppalan Larry - 12.11.2003

Our own bull Kuoppalan Larry got also new proofs, and now it is looking better. His total index is now +17, and I think it is the best for ages among our own bulls.

Latest indexes - 12.11.2003

Latest indexes are nice to read. The average total index of the cows were +25.
The best individual total index had cow called Patronne (out of Jocko Besne), +33 and she also had the best udder index 118.
The average of udder indexes were 110, so not bad at all.
